Elongation: 16% minimum in 8”
19% minimum in 2” (for plate 24” and wider)

ASTM A633 GR E

A “normalized” high strength low alloy steel plate for construction. This product is suited for service at low ambient temperatures of -50oF (-45oC) and higher when notch toughness better than that expected in an “As-rolled” material of a comparable strength level is desired.

Mechanical Properties:
Tensile: 2 ½” and under – 80 to 100 KSI
Over 2 ½” – 4” -- 80 to 100 KSI
Over 4” – 6” 75 to 95 KSI
Yield: 2 ½” and under 60 KSI minimum
Over 2 ½” – 4” 60 KSI minimum
Over 4” – 6” 55 KSI minimum
Elongation: 18% minimum in 8”
23% minimum in 2”
For plates wider than 24”, the elongation requirement is
reduced by two percentage points.

ASTM A656 GR 80

A hot-rolled structural steel, high strength low-alloy plate with improved formability for use in truck frames, brackets, crane booms, rail cars and similar applications.

Mechanical Properties:
Tensile: 90 KSI minimum
Yield: 80 KSI minimum
Elongation: 12% in 8”
15% in 2”
For plates wider than 24”, the elongation requirement is
reduced by three percentage points.

AISI 1040 and AISI 1045

In the AISI specifications, the capital letter (digits) prefixes are used to indicate the manufacturing process, in this case, carbon steel. The following 2 digits represent the chemical composition.

1040
Carbon: .37 to .44
Manganese: .60 to .90
Phosphorus: .040
Silicon: .050

1045
Carbon: .43 to .50
Manganese: .60 to .90
Phosphorus: .040
Silicon: .050

AR 200

This product is a lower grade of wear resistant steel plate, which is referred to as AR 200 or AR 235, depending on the manufacturer. This product can be used in light abrasive applications and is not intended for structural use.

Mechanical Properties:
Tensile: 90 KSI typical
Yield: 70 KSI typical
Brinell Hardness: 180 minimum/235 nominal

AR 360 / AR 400

This grade is quenched and tempered through hardened wear resistant grades and used for high impact and abrasion. Both have a minimum Brinell of 360, and are not intended for structural use.

Mechanical Properties:
Tensile: 180 – 200 KSI typical
Yield: 140 KSI typical
Elongation: 14.8% in 8”
Brinell: 360 minimum / 400 nominal

ASTM A514

A quenched and tempered high strength steel used in structural application where high strength and low weight is critical.

Mechanical Properties:
Tensile: Up to 2 ½” -- 110 to 130 KSI
2 ½” – 6” -- 100 to 130 KSI
Yield: Up to 2 ½” -- 100 KSI minimum
2 ½” – 6” -- 90 KSI minimum
