Specifications

Delta Steel offers both seamless and welded steel pipes that meet a range of recognized industry standards, supporting standard and high-performance applications.

For Ordinary Uses

These specifications cover black and hot-dipped galvanized welded seamless steel pipe with nominal (average) wall thickness. Intended for ordinary uses—such as steam, water, gas, and air lines—this pipe is not suited for close coiling, bending, or high-temperature service. Hydrostatic testing is performed at the mill; no additional mechanical tests apply unless specifically requested.

Note: For applications requiring tension, flattening, or bend tests, pipe should be ordered to ASTM A-53 specifications. For galvanized pipe, the base metal is made and tested to A-53 requirements, and the coating is tested per A-120. If specified, mechanical test results can be provided.

Note: Bending or fabrication that exceeds the elasticity limit of galvanized coatings may cause some flaking.

ASTM A-120

Black and galvanized welded seamless nominal (average) wall pipe, available in sizes 1/8″–12″. Intended for ordinary uses such as steam, water, gas, and air lines. Not suited for close coiling, bending, or high-temperature service.

ASTM A-53

Black and galvanized welded seamless nominal wall pipe, available in sizes 1/8″–24″. Suitable for coiling, bending, flanging, and welding. Not all types are intended for flanging (such as buttwelded pipe), so the purpose should be specified when ordering.

ASTM A-106

Seamless nominal wall pipe only (no welding permitted), available in sizes 1/8″–24″ with schedules 10 through 160. Designed for high-temperature service, suitable for bending, flanging, and similar forming operations. Smaller sizes (1 1/2″ and under) may be hot finished or cold drawn; larger sizes (2″ and larger) are typically hot finished unless otherwise specified.

API 5L

Cold welded and seamless pipe in sizes 1/8″–24″, suitable for conveying gas, water, and oil in both oil and natural gas industries.
