Solar Panel Mounts

Environment and climate play an important role in the design and installation of solar panel systems. As no two projects are the same, we work with our customers to provide customized components that will ensure the optimal performance of any racking system. We manufacture the following components:

Flashings

Flashings are a vital component used to prevent water leakage after drilling through a roof to install solar panels. There are different types of flashing depending on the style of roof. Roofs made from unique materials such as metal or wood require customized flashings to properly prevent leakage.

Mounts

When installing solar panels, high-quality mounts are necessary to securely affix the rails to the roof. Typically, a mount consists of a bolt inserted through the flashing and into the interior of the roof. As there are a wide variety of solar panel racking systems, the ability to customize components ensures that the solar panel system is compatible with the mounts.

Rails

Rails serve both a functional and an aesthetic purpose, as they hold up the solar panels and provide a non-obtrusive space to contain the wiring of the racking system. Depending on the design of the system, rails may run either horizontally or vertically across the roof.

Clamps

The safety of the solar panel racking system depends on the panels being fixed securely to the roof. Clamps hold the panels in place on the rails. There are two main types of clamps: mid-clamps and end-clamps. The former is generally smaller in size and sits between the panels rather than at the ends.

Why Choose Steel for Your Solar Panel Mounting System

Solar panel mounting components are typically composed from either steel or aluminum. When choosing between these two materials, there are several factors to consider. In particular, it is important to determine the type of environment in which the mounting system will be used. Steel has several advantages that make it well-suited for both average and harsh climates. These advantages include:

Strength

Aluminum brackets are not as strong as brackets made from steel. Stronger brackets offer overall better security and are especially vital in areas that experience high levels of wind.

Corrosion Resistance

Steel offers a high level of corrosion resistance, which is extremely important as corrosion will impact both the appearance and the longevity of the solar panel mounting system. When properly maintained, stainless steel components will offer a service life of approximately 20 years.

Price

In addition to their superior strength, steel brackets are more affordable than their aluminum counterparts. This price difference is particularly notable in mounting systems that are intended for use in extreme environments, as the stronger steel components are more affordable upfront while also reducing the risk of needing expensive repairs in the future.
